Christmas vacation at the sea: more than just baubles

Spending the Christmas holidays at the sea is a unique experience full of cozy activities. Enjoy the warmest Christmas markets, take winter walks, dine extensively in one of the many top restaurants and ring in the New Year with a bang. This is just the tip of the iceberg! Of course, you can expect a lot from your relaxing Christmas vacation at the sea. And if you bring your (plastic) Christmas tree to your own holiday home, you won’t miss out on any of the homely coziness.

An ideal winter day at the sea

After a cozy breakfast together in the snug holiday home, it’s time to spring into action. The morning is indeed an excellent time for a dose of culture: educational and inspiring so early in the day! Not only is there a choice of one of the many museums, but there is also an annual art exhibition in both Ostend and Knokke-Heist during this period.

For young children, visiting an animal park, which spontaneously brings to mind the warm Serpentarium in Blankenberge, might be more suitable. When our stomachs start rumbling at noon, we go in search of a suitable location for a surprising local dish.

Afterwards, a brief stroll on the promenade full of healthy sea air before exploring a Christmas market later that day. Ice skating not your thing? Then just hang around one of the many stalls full of delicacies! After this fulfilling day, you can return contentedly to your cozy holiday home!

Romantic ideas for between Christmas and New Year

During the cold winter months, we also love to snuggle up close to our loved ones. You can take advantage of this by making the Christmas vacation at the sea a truly romantic time. Treat yourselves to a wellness experience, enjoying that wonderful jacuzzi or the hot sauna. Of course, with a nice glass of wine or bubbles at hand.

After you’re completely relaxed, you can venture into the city and look for those last Christmas gifts. In one of the many restaurants on the coast, you’ll undoubtedly find an ideal meal to conclude your beautiful day!

Celebrating New Year at the sea

As tradition dictates, we also ring in the new year on the Belgian coast with a spectacular fireworks display. In almost every coastal town, you can see and hear fantastic end-of-year fireworks. Keep this in mind if you wish to bring a dog to your holiday home.

However, the festive activities during a Christmas vacation at the sea are certainly not over after the fireworks spectacle. Shortly after New Year’s Day, it’s time to gather again for another lovely light spectacle. Namely, the Christmas tree burning. Not feeling warm from such an event? Then just come and enjoy some doughnuts with a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate. A gin is always welcome during this time of the year as well. Finally, brave daredevils in Ostend can push their limits and venture into the annual New Year’s dive. Caution, not for the faint-hearted!
